In this technology area, it is proposed to design and develop new welding power sources that would be customized to address the problems being faced in welding of different metals. It is proposed to customize the welding power output by judiciously selecting the material specific optimized wave forms that would address some of the key issues relevant to welding of new materials. This technology area includes design & demonstration of inverter/transistor based power source with programmable wave form technology.
Dr. M. Sundaram of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department would be the Principal Investigator for this project. The department has the capability to design inverter and power circuits and fabricate the printed circuit boards and other control modules.
Similar to project 1, It is planned to have user industry interface to verify the performance quality and consistency of the prototype prior to the development of the industry version. Suitable technology transfer documents would also be prepared to enable know how transfer to industry.
